CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Cabinet Secretary Kay Goodwin of the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts and Commissioner Randall Reid-Smith of the West Virginia Division of Culture and History (WVDCH) presented $520,167 in development-grant funds for 19 projects involving the restoration and rehabilitation of historic sites listed in the National Register of Historic Places on Wednesday, July 24. The grant presentation took place at the Culture Center, State Capitol Complex, Charleston. The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) of the WVDCH administers the development grant program.

An outside review panel appointed by the SHPO developed recommendations for the Archives and History Commission, which made the final grant determinations. Funding for the grants program comes from the appropriation of funds from the West Virginia Legislature. A complete list of recipients is attached.

Boone Madison Public Library, $35,500 to assist with replacing the roof on the Boone Madison Public Library in Madison.

Berkeley County
Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks and Recreation, $27,500 to assist with replacing the roof on the Poor House Farm Park Building in Martinsburg.

Cabell County
J & Lenore Kaiser and David E. Gerlock Foundation Inc., $19,960 to assist with restoring the exterior of the Coin Harvey House in Huntington.

Fayette County
Coal Heritage Highway Authority, $80,000 to replace the roof on the Patteson/Deering Building in Mount Hope.
Dr. Scott Keffer, $15,125 to assist with the foundation and roof on the Tyree Tavern in Ansted.
Town of Fayetteville, $25,000 to assist with replacing the roof and gutters on the Old Fayetteville High School in Fayetteville.

Victoria Harman, $6,870 to assist with restoring the exterior wood on the Cedars in Lewisburg.

Hampshire County
Mike Shaw, $36,086 to assist with restoring of the barn roof and fascia on Ridgedale Farm Barn in Springfield.

Oakland Hall Preservation Society Inc., $4,836 to assist with restoring the gutters/downspouts and chimney flashing on Oakland Hall in Moorefield.

Kanawha County
City of Charleston, $22,500 to assist with restoring the exterior of the Spring Hill Cemetery Mausoleum in Charleston.

Marion County
Delaina Kucish, $44,883 to assist with restoring the masonry walls, soffits and fascia; gables; and windows on Our Country Corner in Fairmont.

Mercer County
Melvin and Kim Ross, $9,000 to assist with replacing the roof on the Gem Jewelers Building in Bluefield.

Ohio County
Kristoffy Real Estate, LLC, $37,943 to assist with restoring the windows, bays, balconies and facade on the Vivienne Apartments in Wheeling.
Patrick and Nikki Lenz, $18,846 to assist with restoring the masonry on the Fischer-Lasch Farmhouse in Wheeling.
YWCA of Wheeling, $26,250 to assist with restoring the windows on the YWCA Building in Wheeling.
