VITAL INFORMATION

  1. ALL APPLICATIONS FOR GRANTS WITH AN OCTOBER 1 DEADLINE will be submitted through our online grant application portal, GoApply, which will open on September 1. Applicants are encouraged to download the forms on this page ONLY to help gather the needed information to complete the online application.
  2. NEW IDENTIFIER REQUIRED: ALL ORGANIZATIONS applying for funding from the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History will be required to have a Unique Entity ID (UEI) from SAM.gov in alignment with requirements from the National Endowment for the Arts. For further information about obtaining your UEI, please refer to the webinar recording from November 3, 2021. OR, view the slide deck here. To begin the process, click here. Please note: Obtaining a UEI is FREE, so beware of scams.
  3. All applicants must read the general guidelines before applying for a grant.
  4. All applicants must be registered as Vendors with a W-9 on file with the state. Also new this year, all applicants must register for Electronic Fund Transfer (Direct Deposit). Instructions for completing both of these steps can be found by clicking here.

Arts in Education – School-Based and Out-of-School-Based Projects

Description: Provides support for curriculum-based, hands-on projects that involve K-12 students and teachers in the arts during daily instruction or outside of regular school hours.
Eligibility: West Virginia schools and nonprofit 501(c)3 arts organizations in good standing with the West Virginia Commission on  the Arts.

Arts in Education – Arts Exposure Projects
Deadline: April 1

Description: Provides support to present performing, literary, and visual artists to students in grades K-12. 
Eligibility: West Virginia schools, nonprofit 501(c)3 arts organizations, both touring and presenting, as well as individual artists and artist collectives in good standing with the West Virginia Commission on  the Arts.
Funding Level: Up to 50 percent of eligible costs

Arts in Education Mini-Grants
Deadline: 6 weeks prior to project date

Description: Provides support for schools, nonprofit community arts organizations and other nonprofit sponsors that do not present a season of events for the presentation of West Virginia artists in arts education projects.
Eligibility: West Virginia schools and nonprofit 501(c)3 arts organizations in good standing with the West Virginia Commission on  the Arts.
Funding Level: Up to 100 percent of eligible costs, not to exceed $1,000

Arts Partners
Deadline: April 1

Description: Provides general operating support for long-standing, stable arts organizations to further the general purpose or work of an organization rather than for a specific purpose or project.
Eligibility: Qualifying organizations with annual operating budgets of at least $100,000

Community Arts Mini-Grants

Description: Provides support for projects that present artists in performances, workshops, and other projects with a specific arts focus.

Creative Aging for Lifelong Learning (CALL)
Deadline: October 1

Description: Provides support for creative aging projects that employ a West Virginia teaching artist for programming to teach a new skill in the arts to a consistent group of adults age 55+ and has a culminating public event at the conclusion of the project.
Eligibility: West Virginia nonprofit 501(c)(3) arts organizations, local governments, and individual artists.
Funding Level: Up to $5,000

Cultural Facilities and Capital Resources

Description: Provides support for the acquisition, construction and renovation of arts venues, accessibility improvements and capital purchases of durable equipment.
Eligibility: West Virginia schools and nonprofit 501(c)3 arts organizations in good standing with the West Virginia Commission on  the Arts.
Funding Level: Up to 50 percent of eligible costs for requests of between $2,500 and $500,000

Folk Art: Living Traditions – Individual Artists
Deadline: October 1

Description: Provides support for individual artists to improve their skills or create folk art projects.
Eligibility: Any artist, artisan, or craftsperson who is at least eighteen years old, a U.S. citizen, a legal resident of West Virginia, and is in good standing with the WV Commission on the Arts.
Funding Level: Up to $5,000

Professional Development for Artists

Description: Provides support for professional and emerging artists to expand or improve their work or share their expertise.

Funding level: Up to 75 percent of eligible costs for the first year, not to exceed $2,500; Up to 50 percent of eligible costs for subsequent years, not to exceed $2,500

Description: Provides support for art organizations that meet the needs of underserved artists by offering programs that help them expand or improve their work.

Training and Travel
Application Deadline: 6 weeks before event

Description: Provides travel support to artists, arts administrators and arts educators for conferences, workshops, seminars, and showcases outside of West Virginia.
Eligibility: Artists who are at least 18 years of age and a legal resident of West Virginia for at least one year and West Virginia nonprofit 501(c)3 arts organizations in good standing with the West Virginia Commission on  the Arts.
Funding Level: Up to 75 percent of eligible costs, not to exceed $500

Description: To provide up to $5,000 in support for public art projects that engage local youth in the planning and/or implementation of the project.
