From the time of the very earliest inhabitants of what is now West Virginia, life here has been deeply intertwined with the arts. Artists of many cultural backgrounds have found inspiration in our mountains to paint, draw, carve, sculpt, dance, write, act, and make music. Through these expressions, West Virginia artists and arts organizations have positively impacted the lives of not only countless West Virginians, but they have also impacted the larger world. Here at the Department of Arts, Culture, and History, part of our mission is to work with the citizens of the Mountain State to help provide a thriving environment for creative expression and appreciation for the arts.
