CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History (WVDACH) and the West Virginia America 250th Commission will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Point Pleasant with a lantern convoy on Wednesday, Oct. 9, beginning at the Greenbrier County Courthouse at 8 a.m. The lantern convoy will recognize the voyage colonial troops took from Greenbrier County to where the battle occurred in Point Pleasant.
The convoy will make stops at five courthouses along the way, as well as the State Capitol building and end at Tu-Endi-Wei State Park in Point Pleasant. A Ceremonial Lantern and a certificate will be presented at each stop from the Governor and the West Virginia 250th Commission. Each stop will last approximately 20 mins. The ceremonies are open to the public.
The Lantern Convoy Schedule is as follows:
8:00 a.m. – Greenbrier County Courthouse, Lewisburg
9:05 a.m. – Summers County Courthouse, Hinton
10:00 a.m. – Raleigh County Courthouse, Beckley
10:50 a.m. – Fayette County Courthouse, Fayetteville
12:30 p.m. – State Capitol Building (Lincoln Plaza), Charleston
1:40 p.m. – Putnam County Courthouse, Winfield
2:45 p.m. – Arrive Tu-Endi-Wei State Park, Point Pleasant
3:30 p.m. – Convoy Ends
