West Virginia State Museum Offers After school Program

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia 101 is coming to the West Virginia State Museum! This afterschool program will be offered from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursdays from September through May and feature different West Virginia-themed activities each month for students in grades 2 to 5.  The free program is limited to 28 participants per week and advance registration is required.

The program is open to students and parents. Each Thursday, the first hour will include activities that introduce students to a topic that relates to West Virginia history. The second hour will be devoted to special projects, homework help and creative learning.

The monthly themes cover a variety of topics. Participants may choose the months they are interested in attending.

September – Investigating Artifacts
October – Where in the World is West Virginia?
November – America’s First Wild West
December – State Symbols
January – The War between the States
February – The State of West Virginia
March – Going to the Capitol
April – Cultural Heritage
May – Industry in Motion

The West Virginia Division of Culture and History is proud to be able to present its programs at no charge to the public but without a solution to the state’s budget situation, this could be the last year that programs of this type could be offered.
