West Virginia State Historic Preservation Office Announces FY2020 Development Grant Recipients

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History (WVDACH) presented $465,460 in development grant funds for 21 projects involving the restoration and rehabilitation of historic sites listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) of the WVDACH administers the development grant program. A list of grant recipients is attached.

A review panel appointed by the SHPO developed recommendations for grant funding for the Archives and History Commission, which made the final grant determinations. Funding for the grants program comes from the appropriation of funds from the West Virginia Legislature.

Shenandoah Landlord, LLC, $50,000 to repair windows at Shenandoah Hotel in Martinsburg. 

Greenbrier County
Greenbrier Historical Society, $30,000 for foundation stabilization at Blue Sulphur Spring Pavilion in Blue Sulphur.

Hampshire County
Larry & Mona Carroll, $27,500 to replace main house roof and chimney repair Hickory Grove in Romney.

Hardy County
Town of Moorefield, $6,600 to replace roof and gutters and repair foundation at the Robert Higgins House in Moorefield.

Jefferson County
Claymont Society for Continuous Education, $11,550 to replace roof on south veranda at Claymont Court in Charles Town.
Harpers Ferry-Bolivar Historic Town Foundation, $3,600 to repair foundation at rear of building at Harpers Ferry Folklife Center in Harpers Ferry.

Kanawha County
Galanta Baile, LLC, $50,000 to repair/replace roof and install gutters at 1567 Lee Street, East in Charleston.

Mercer County
The Bramwell Foundation, $15,000 to replace roof and reconstruct chimney at Pence Hotel in              
Bramwell.

Monroe County
Sweet Springs Resort Park Foundation, Inc., $50,000 to replace metal and flat roof and repair/replace eaves and fascia at Sweet Springs Resort in Gap Mills.
Larry Mustain, $8,500 to clean silt and mud from Mill Holding Pond and rebuild Mill Holding Dam at Reeds Mill in Second Creek.

Ohio County
William Gabriel Hays, $14,250 for window repair at Zane Building in Wheeling.                                    
Jamie and James Edwards, $20,000 to replace tower and flat roof and repair windows at 80 14th Street in Wheeling.

Preston County
Arthurdale Heritage, Inc., $19,565 to replace roof and gutters and to replace porch structural support beam at Center Hall in Arthurdale.

Randolph County
Randolph County Historical Society, $7,440 to replace roof, repair soffit and fascia and repair chimney flashing at Blackman-Bosworth Store in Beverly.
Historic Beverly Preservation, Inc., $6,555 to replace roof and roof drain at Beverly Bank in Beverly.
Elkins HLC/City of Elkins, $8,500 to replace roof and footer and to repair wall at Darden Carriage House in Elkins.                  

Ritchie County
Ritchie County Historic Landmark Commission, $12,500 to replace roof at the Bank of Cairo in Cairo.

Summers County
MountainPlex Properties, LLC, $50,000 to replace roof at Laing, Humphries & Citizens Bank Building in Hinton.

Tucker County 
Vandalia Heritage Foundation, $29,100 to replace joists on first floor and repair structural wall at the Davis Coal and Coke Company Administration Building in Thomas.   

Wayne County
Town of Ceredo, $8,800 to stabilize exterior front wall, repair brick on front wall, stabilize first floor and repair roof and chimney flashing at the Z.D. Ramsdell House in Ceredo.

Wood County
City of Parkersburg, $36,000 to restore side walls and install new logs, chinking of logs and repair chimney at the Henry Cooper Log Cabin Museum in Parkersburg.
