West Virginia Division of Culture and History to offer quilt workshop on May 6

 News…

The West Virginia Division of Culture and History is offering a “Folk Art and Feathers” quilt workshop with Linda Luggen, certified judge by the National Quilting Association, on Friday, May 6, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., at the Culture Center, State Capitol Complex in Charleston. The workshop is suitable for beginning and intermediate quilters. Class size is limited to 20 participants. There is a $20 fee per person, and registration is required.

“Folk Art and Feathers” is a pattern that teaches the fine points of applique, while allowing the quilter some freedom of expression. A full wreath of red flowers and pink and yellow buds teaches unit applique as well as a fine stitch. A bird is featured in the quilt pattern.

Luggen also is serving as judge for this year’s Quilts and Wall Hangings exhibit. The free summer-long exhibit will be displayed in the Great Hall of the Culture Center from May 24 through Sept. 6.

Luggen, of Cincinnati, Ohio, is a quiltmaker, quilt teacher, lecturer and designer. She has spent 30 years sharing her knowledge of quilts and quiltmaking. She designs many of her own applique patterns, and her color sense and multi-layer techniques had led her to a new world of freedom in creative applique designs that she loves to share.

Luggen’s quilts have won awards nationally and have been published in Lady’s Circle Patchwork Quilts and Great American Quilts. Her home and quilts were featured in Romantic Homes. At one Cincinnati Fall Flower Show at Coney Island, Luggen was the featured artist, displaying 20 quilts pertaining to flowers and nature.
