West Virginia Commission on the Arts to host public meeting Nov. 10 in Buckhannon

The West Virginia Commission on the Arts (WVCA) of the West Virginia Division of Culture and History will hold its annual public comment meeting from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, in the Greek Alumni Room at West Virginia Wesleyan College, 59 College Ave., Buckhannon.

“The purpose of the meeting is to give citizens the opportunity to comment and make recommendations related to the arts programs administered through the Arts Section of Culture and History,” said Jeff Pierson, director of arts. “Information may be presented to the commission either in writing ahead of time or in person at the meeting.”

Those who address the commission in person will have 10 minutes to speak, Pierson said. Registration is not required; however, presentations will be made on a first-come, first-served basis until all the 10-minute slots are full. Interested parties are encouraged to call in advance. Individuals who plan to appear before the commission should submit their comments in writing at registration on Nov. 10.

Anyone who cannot attend the meeting or does not wish to speak may submit written comments by Friday, Nov. 4. Written comments may be sent to the West Virginia Division of Culture and History, The Culture Center, Arts Section, 1900 Kanawha Blvd., E., Charleston, W.Va. 25305-0300.

The WVCA serves as a citizen advisory board to the division. The group provides guidance in the establishment of a state arts plan, and approves and distributes grants-in-aid and awards from federal and state funds.
