West Virginia Archives and History displays new “Bands in West Virginia” photograph exhibit

 News…

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – To coincide with the 2019 West Virginia Marching Band Invitational, West Virginia Archives and History is pleased to announce the newest photograph exhibit, “Bands in West Virginia.” The display focuses on marching bands, but other interesting band photos have been included.

The exhibit features photographs of various types of bands, including school, community and family bands, and the images come from all over the state. It contains photographs from schools no longer in operation, such as Bolling High School, Garnet High School and Charleston High School, as well as images of bands from less expected places, such as the West Virginia State Penitentiary. The photos range in dates from the early 1900s to the 1990s.

The exhibit features 66 selected images from the State Archive’s photograph collections and is currently on display at the Culture Center in Charleston.
