Grave Creek Mound to Host Two Events on Tuesday, Nov. 12

 News…

MOUNDSVILLE. W.Va. – Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex in Moundsville will host two events on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019, beginning at 4 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.

Marble King is celebrating its 70th anniversary with a reception at the Complex from 4 – 5 p.m. with light refreshments. Marble King is one of only two marble manufacturers still in operation. Located in Paden City, W.Va., Marble King manufactures over a million marbles each day at full production capacity. Guests also can see the permanent Marble King exhibit on display in the museum.

From 5 – 7 p.m., Grave Creek will host another reception for the unveiling of two new exhibits at the Complex. A Marx Toys exhibit will feature artifacts on loan from the Marx Toy Museum. Louis Marx founded his toy company in 1919. Marx opened factories in Erie and Girard, Penn., along with their largest facility in Glen Dale, W.Va. During the 1950’s, Louis Marx & Co. became the “largest toy manufacturer in the world,” with over one-third of all toys in the U.S. being Marx toys.

A new Fostoria glass exhibit also will open along with the Marx Toys exhibit. The exhibit will feature glass from the Fostoria Glass Company, including American, Colony and Century/Heather patterns. The Fostoria Glass Company manufactured pressed, blown and hand-molded glassware and tableware for almost 100 years. It began operations in Fostoria, Ohio, on Dec. 15, 1887. The company moved to Moundsville, W.Va. in 1891.
