Fall 2020 Issue of GOLDENSEAL Magazine Now Available

 News…

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The fall 2020 issue of GOLDENSEAL is dedicated to the crash of the Marshall University football team plane crash, which killed all 75 on board, on Nov. 14, 1970. It remains the deadliest aviation disaster in West Virginia history and the worst sports-related air disaster in U.S. history. Attached is a list of retailers where GOLDENSEAL magazine is available.

This edition of GOLDENSEAL examines the events surrounding that horrific event 50 years ago, memories of students and Huntington residents at the time, and how this unspeakable tragedy has forged an unwavering bond between the city and university and continues to inspire Marshall students today. Authors include Eric Douglas, David Board, Caryn Schafer Gresham, Jim Workman, Brad Crum and Randy Yohe, with a special guest column by Marshall President Dr. Jerome Gilbert on the importance of Nov. 14.

This issue also includes state folklorist Emily Hilliard’s tribute to Clay County musician John Morris, who was named one of nine 2020 National Endowment for the Arts’ National Heritage Fellows. It’s the nation’s highest honor in the folk and traditional arts. In addition, this edition features winning entries from the 2020 Quilts and Wall Hangings competition, sponsored by the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History, a review of singer-songwriter Steve Earle’s new album The Ghosts of West Virginia and reviews of recent books about West Virginia.

To order the fall issue, call the GOLDENSEAL office at (304) 558-0220. The cost is $5.95 plus shipping or $20 for a one-year subscription (four quarterly issues).
