Scores of West Virginia’s master fiddlers\, pickers and singers gather\, along with hundreds of local folks and visitors for a day of fun\, packed with performances\, workshops\, jam sessions and a square dance in the evening.\n\n10 a.m. to 11 a.m.: Fiddle Workshop with Tessa McCoy | Augusta Heritage Center Dance Hall (303 Davis Avenue\, Elkins\, WV 26241)\nLearn a fiddle tune and technique from the West Virginia State fiddle champion. This workshop is aimed at intermediate players\, but all levels are welcome if you are willing to follow the pace of the instructor. $20 admission\, $10 for students/Americorps\n\n11 a.m. to 12 p.m.: West Virginia Tune Workshop with Chance McCoy (open to all instruments) | Augusta Heritage Center Dance Hall (303 Davis Avenue\, Elkins\, WV 26241)\nBring an instrument and learn a tune from Chance McCoy\, who is originally from the Eastern Panhandle and has toured the world with Old Crow Medicine Show and other bands. The show runs approximately 35 minutes. Tickets can be purchased at the door- $5 for students\, $10 for adults. CASH ONLY\n\nIn these quirky tales\, Grandpa paints the picture of Winnie-the-Pooh\, a bear of very little brain\, and his friends to Christopher Robin before bedtime. These stories often begin with a simple problem (and with Pooh\, that problem more often than not involves honey). Then\, the friends of the Wood\, along with Christopher Robin\, must come together to find a solution. Whether it is using their imagination to create a new invention\, using teamwork to build a house\, or sharing resources to make a new friend feel welcome\, the wacky personalities of the Wood’s inhabitants constantly butt heads to reach a collective goal while learning important life lessons along the way.

Share meals in the old Masonic lodge\, dance in the community hall\, enjoy the train whistle echoing through the hollers\, and jam on the many front porches overlooking the Greenbrier River.\n\nThis year’s staff includes Rachel Eddy (multi-instrument class\, Augusta Advisor for the week)\, Erynn Marshall (fiddle)\, Jesse Milnes (fiddle)\, Brad Kolodner (banjo)\, Hilary Hawke (banjo)\, Carl Jones (guitar)\, Danny Knicely (mandolin)\, and Evie Ladin (singing). All of the classes for October Old-Time Retreat are geared towards Intermediate and Advanced players.\n\nTuition for the event is $495\, with options to add housing and meals.

SUMMARY:David Starr + Erick Stucky Live at The Roq
DESCRIPTION:David Starr is a Colorado-based\, Americana and blues singer/songwriter with over 11 albums to his credit. The Arkansas native has honed his decades-long career touring internationally and sharing the stage with esteemed artists such as John Oates (Hall & Oates) and John McEuen\, as well as opening for acts like America\, Karla Bonoff\, Jim Messina\, Survivor\, and more. He has been a showcasing artist at Folk Alliance International\, AmericanaFest\, and Southwest Regional Folk Alliance. His latest project Starr & Stucky\, is an acoustic album with longtime accompanist and mandolin player Erik Stucky. The record is a nod to Starr’s dynamic live show with reimagined acoustic versions of setlist favorites. In 2023\, he released Better Me\, featuring originals such as the title track and “Closer To You\,” the feisty blues-rock “Poison The Water\,” as well as “Any Chance Of Going Home\,” showcasing Starr’s masterful storytelling. His critically acclaimed album Beauty & Ruin is a collection of songs inspired by Of What Was\, Nothing Is Left\, a novel written by Starr’s grandfather in 1972. Produced and arranged by John Oates\, it is a southern gothic tale beautifully told through Starr’s own musical lens. His prestige extends beyond the stage\, having launched Starr’s Guitars in Little Rock\, before relocating to Cedaredge\, CO in 2001\, where it is now a beloved institution. Starr is also a founding member of the board for the Grand Mesa Arts & Events Center in Cedaredge\, an intimate event space aimed at attracting musicians and visual artists to Colorado’s Western Slope. In 2024\, he produced the sold-out inaugural Grand Mesa Songwriter Festival\, which brought 15 songwriters to Cedaredge to perform across five venues. For more info\, contact Peter Smith at 304-876-1139 or pvsmith@frontiernet.net)\n\n \n\nTICKETS ON SALE NOW FOR NOV. 2 & 3 FRIENDS OF MUSIC CONCERT IN SHEPHERDSTOWN\n\n \n\nThe Friends of Music will present two performances of a Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra concert in Shepherdstown during the November 2 and 3 weekend.\n\nThe first performance will be at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday the 2nd; the second will be a 3:00 p.m. matinee on Sunday\, the 3rd. \n\nBoth performances will be held in the historic Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church at 100 West Washington Street.\n\nEntitled “Radiance and Fire\,” the concert will feature three works: Hymn and Fuguing Tune No. 10 by American Composer Henry Cowell (1897–1965); the Cello Concerto No. 1 in C major of Joseph Haydn (1732–1809); and the Symphony No. 40 in G minor of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791).\n\nAdmission to the concert will be free for Friends of Music members. The ticket price for others will be $40 per person. Tickets can be purchased on the Friends’ website at www.friendswv.org; or by mail (FOM\, PO Box 220\, Shepherdstown\, WV 25443); or\, if space is available\, at the church at both performances. Peled has performed in many of the world’s most prestigious venues\, including Carnegie Hall in New York; the Kennedy Center in Washington\, D.C.; Salle Gaveau in Paris; Wigmore Hall in London; and the Konzerthauz in Berlin\, Germany\, to name a few. \n\nPeled is a cello professor at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore\, Maryland\, and has performed in and presented master classes around the world. Embracing the new online era\, he has also established an Amit Peled Online Cello Academy\, which reaches out to hundreds of cellists all over the world.\n\nThe orchestra’s music director\, Jed Gaylin\, will conduct. He will give talks at the Church about the concert before each performance\, sharing his insights into the works being performed.
