SUMMARY:"Winnie-the-Pooh" Theatre for Young Audiences
DESCRIPTION:The Capital High School Theatre is proud to present the world premier of a new Appalachian adaptation of Winnie-the-Pooh.\n\nShows are Friday\, October 4th and Saturday\, October 5th at 7pm and Sunday\, October 6th at 2pm. The show runs approximately 35 minutes. Tickets can be purchased at the door- $5 for students\, $10 for adults. CASH ONLY\n\nIn these quirky tales\, Grandpa paints the picture of Winnie-the-Pooh\, a bear of very little brain\, and his friends to Christopher Robin before bedtime. These stories often begin with a simple problem (and with Pooh\, that problem more often than not involves honey). Then\, the friends of the Wood\, along with Christopher Robin\, must come together to find a solution. Whether it is using their imagination to create a new invention\, using teamwork to build a house\, or sharing resources to make a new friend feel welcome\, the wacky personalities of the Wood’s inhabitants constantly butt heads to reach a collective goal while learning important life lessons along the way.

The free 6:30pm concert\, sponsored by First Mutual Bank\, will be held on the performance deck at the Francis Creative Arts Center at the corner of Maple Avenue and Washington Street in downtown New Martinsville.  Jessica Schoonover has been playing music and singing since she was 4 years old. In addition to singing\, she also plays fiddle\, mandolin\, and guitar. Tincher has won state banjo contests in Ohio\, West Virginia\, and Maryland\, as well as the Mid-Atlantic Banjo Championship. He sings and plays steel guitar\, electric guitar\, and acoustic guitar in the band. Light refreshments will be served and don’t forget a lawn chair.

SUMMARY:ArtsLink Coffeehouse featuring the Bank Notes with Bill Stokes Magic
DESCRIPTION:ArtsLink’s 2024 Coffeehouse Series will continue Tuesday\, August 20\, with The Bank Notes. The free 6:30pm concert\, sponsored by First Mutual Bank\, will be held on the performance deck at the Francis Creative Arts Center at the corner of Maple Avenue and Washington Street in downtown New Martinsville. Photography by local artist Jane Knight will be on display in the gallery. The Bank Notes are a local Barbershop chorus whose repertoire includes classic Barbershop tunes\, and some modern songs performed in the Barbershop style. Their name is derived from their rehearsal location\, Doolin Center\, which used to be a bank. In between sets\, we have Bill Stokes\, a local entertainer who will share some musical trickery of his own.  Light refreshments will be served and don’t forget a lawn chair. In the event of an uncooperative weatherman\, the concert will be moved indoors.

DESCRIPTION:CHARLESTON\, W.Va. – The Governor’s Arts Caravan is coming to a town near you. The West Virginia Department of Arts\, Culture and History (WVDACH) and the State Arts Office will host an upcoming arts caravan consisting of a series of five grant workshops around the state to discuss grant programs with artists and arts organizations. \n\n\n\nEach session will last approximately two and a half hours and consist of an overview of available grants and services provided by the WVDACH. The director of arts\, grant coordinators\, and Cabinet Secretary Randall Reid-Smith will be on-site to lead the workshops and answer any questions. All workshops are free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Team Kid-Prov Improv! will be performing a hilarious holiday-themed  improv show this December 17th in association with MT Pockets Theatre. \nAs part of Fairmont State University Academy of the Arts\, Team Kid Prov-Improv is under the direction of Christian Cox.  They are a team of players ranging from 7th-12th grades.   The team is comprised of students who have had at least two improv classes.  They perform a variety of short and long-form improv.   Their shows are child-friendly versions similar to the popular ‘Whose Line is it Anyway’.  Current team members include Lillian Cunningham\, Emmery Dugan\, Joanna Dugan\, Savannah Farcin\, Aidan Gross\, Ian Phillips\, and Salem Pollastrini.   The team has had a busy year performing for Barrackville Bridge Day\, Fairmont’s Tomato Festival\, a Halloween show for Short Story Brewing\, and various other events.   Their quick wit and humor are sure to entertain and make you laugh!

SUMMARY:12th Annual Bowed Psaltery Symphony
DESCRIPTION:Join us on May 11th from 7 to 9 pm at Cedar Lakes for the 12th Annual Bowed Psaltery Symphony\, an event that has been hosted by Tish and Greg Westman since 2010.  Listen to the ethereal and haunting sounds of the bowed psaltery\, performed by over 40 musicians from across the country.  Each year the music selection is based on a theme and the 2023 theme is “Gardens”.  The Westman’s identify appropriate traditional music and Tish arranges the pieces to include multiple parts. These parts not only showcase the beauty of the instrument when played in harmony\, but also allow all level of players to participate. Some participants also bring additional instruments to enhance the symphony experience. Mountain and hammer dulcimers\, harps\, flutes\, guitars and even a jug have all complemented the performance.  Tickets are $8/person\, children under 12 are free.  Please stop by the Cedar Lakes Front Office or call (304) 372-7860 to purchase tickets.
